Auction Watch: Antiquorum’s Ultra Cool Vintage Rolex Tool Watches

Similar to Christie’s and Sotheby’s, sales management firm Antiquorum will likewise have a NYC watch closeout this mid year. Antiquorum 2017 is planned to occur tomorrow,  and there are some extremely cool vintage Rolex device watches that will be offered at the upcoming Antiquorum’s Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces closeout. We should examine them a little closer.

Rolex Explorer II ref. 1655 “Steve McQueen”

Estimate: $10,000 – $20,000

Falsely nicknamed the “Steve McQueen,” (the King of Cool’s Rolex of decision was really a Submariner ref. 5512) the Explorer II ref. 1665 is a significant vintage Rolex reference in gathering circles. The debut Sea-Dweller reference, the ref. 1665, is exceptionally pursued in the vintage Rolex community—particularly the Double Red Sea-Dweller models . For the individuals who don’t have a clue, the Sea-Dweller, with its Helium Escape Valve, was initially created for jumpers of the commercial plunging company, COMEX. While future models highlighted white content, early forms of the ref. 1665 had two lines of red content on the dial that authorities love. This particular Sea-Dweller ref. 1665 from 1975 games the Mark IV dial.

Rolex Submariner ref. 6536/1

Estimate: $15,000 – $25,000

A very early model, the creation of the Submariner ref. 6536/1 ran from 1955 to 1959. Note the absence of crown monitors on the watch and the more modest size (6mm) of the winding crown instead of the 8mm size of the “Enormous Crown” Submariners. Also, note this Submariner ref. 6536/1’s overlaid tropical dial—a detail that will make a vintage Rolex authority glad. Rolex GMT-Master ref. 6542

Estimate: $15,000 – $35,000
